Landowner needs
come first
Whether you own a farm, commercial building, or parking lot, you probably have a few questions about how solar can benefit you. We get it – we're landowners and farmers, as well, and we understand the various uses and sentimental value of your property. But if you are starting to consider alternative uses for your real estate, it would be our pleasure to introduce you to the solar development process.

GreenKey has the tools to identify whether solar development is viable for your property. We will openly present our findings and explain your potential financial outlook. If you like what you see and you decide the economics make sense, then we can step in and manage the entire scope of the development process. Our goal is to unlock an effortless revenue stream for you while providing clean energy to your community.
Integrity and transparency are our core values – we will manage your expectations ethically, never pressure a sale, and never compromise standards just to execute a deal. Solar is not the answer for all assets and we only recommend development for landowners who will reap clear and secure financial gains.

Understanding
the process
The process of building a solar farm varies from state to state, but this high-level overview is a good starting point for what to expect. Please contact us if you’d like to dive into the details.

We will review your property, assess the utility interconnection reports, discuss the potential size and location of a solar farm, and share an estimate of your potential income. We’ll also dive into the details of the high-level process laid out below.

If you decide you want to move forward, we send you a Letter of Intent, negotiate a lease agreement, and then spring into action with your local utility.

The goal is to get interconnection approval – permission to connect to the grid. We move quickly to get into the utility’s queue for review by submitting a full interconnection application. The capacity that is available is a finite resource and the interconnection queue is processed on a first come first serve basis – moving fast to get an application submitted is key.

The utility studies your project and provides us with a report that includes important cost, technical, and timeline information. This report is critical because it provides confirmation that the project is viable for electric interconnection. The next step is to enter into a long-term Interconnection Agreement, enabling us to sell power from your project for a significant time period.

Once we receive the utility study, we bring in our engineering experts. This phase includes a land survey, topography survey, geotechnical soil reports, environmental permitting, and any land use permits that may be required. We will coordinate any site visits with you. During this process, you can continue to farm and use your land as you do today.

Once all of the engineering is completed and permits are secured, we move into construction of the solar farm. Typically we are able to follow the Fall harvest or start in the Spring before planting. Construction typically takes 6 to 9 months with the bulk of the work occurring in a 2 month window.

You move seamlessly from agricultural income to solar income. For decades to come, you will receive passive income for you and your family while providing clean energy to your community.
